Web Development Diploma Details

Communication for Marketing and Technology
The Communication for Marketing and Technology course equips students with practical business communication techniques for various operational stages, such as planning, organizing, selecting, writing, and presenting information in the Tech Industry. Students will be taught how to prepare routine memos, proposals, emails, presentations, cover letters, and resumes, submit requests, and format proper replies.
Marketing Essentials
This course provides students with a foundational understanding of marketing. Throughout the duration of this course, students will go through key steps for developing and creating a marketing plan for an organization. This includes product research, identifying target markets, communicating the right message, and presenting a product to potential users.
Students will learn the process of developing a customer centered marketing plan by implementing the concept of “4 Ps” of marketing (Product, Price, Place and Promotion). Additionally, they will practice identifying Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) in strategic planning.
Statistics Fundamentals
This course introduces the basics of statistics and data collection for businesses and organizations within the technology industry. Key concepts include different data types, data collection methods, descriptive statistics, numerical and graphical presentation of data, data analysis, measures, and probabilities.
In addition, students will be introduced to discrete and continuous probability distributions as well as inferential statistics through sampling, testing hypotheses, linear regression, and the chi-squared test for independence.
Introduction to Web Development
Intro to Web Development focuses on providing students with the essentials of web design and web development. Through a hands-on approach, students will learn the foundations of web technologies and terminologies. Adhering to the rules and guidelines of W3C standards, this course covers the Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), providing the essentials of creating and developing web pages.
Students will learn to set up local servers and development platforms for efficient web development processes. In addition, the concept of responsive design, web domains, web hosting and management is discussed in this course.
JavaScript for Web
Building on the foundational skills students will acquire in the Intro to Web Development, this course will provide a more in-depth approach to web development. Students will learn and apply knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, and programming for websites and web applications.
In this course, students will explore several key components of web programming such as DOM (Document Object Model) manipulation, event handling, functions, object creation and detection, jQuery plugin usage, form validation, timers, and simple animations.
UI/UX for Web Design
Websites and digital applications should be considered as products; and like many products they should be designed well to support the users and their needs. A good design for web incorporates a number of principles for optimal human and computer interaction. This UI/UX course demonstrates how humans interact with digital interfaces. In this course, students will study the essentials of user-friendly interactive designs, and the importance of a user-centric approach in designing digital products. Students will learn how to design user interfaces from original concepts, and then form a fully functioning prototype. In teams, students will collaborate and discuss through different iterations of design process, research the user, create user persona, create mockups and interactive prototypes.
Computer Graphics
A website without proper graphics is very much like a forest without trees. This course will provide the fundamentals of creating, optimizing, and managing graphic assets for web design and development. In this course, students will be introduced to two of the most important tools for creating and editing computer graphics; Photoshop and Illustrator. Through using these applications, students will learn to produce Vector Graphics such as logos and icons, in addition to compositing images to create appealing images, backgrounds, and banners for web pages.
Search Engine Optimization 1
This course provides foundational knowledge for students to learn Search Engine Optimization, and the process of how to improve online exposure for websites. Throughout this course students will learn how implementing SEO tactics across the pages of business’ site could improve the online visibility of the business in search engine result page based on organic searches done by users, and practice implementing these skills. Moreover, students will use tools such as Google Analytics to collect data and measure the effectiveness of SEO tactics, as well as practicing the basics of Google ads network
PHP and Database
Python has become one of the most popular programming languages in the past decade and is now one of the essentials of developing advanced web applications. Python offers many frameworks from which to choose from including bottle.py, Flask, CherryPy, Pyramid, Django, and web2py. This course introduces Python and Django framework to the students and covers the foundations and principles of developing web applications. In this course, students learn to use Django open-source web framework for rapid development and clean, pragmatic design. Moreover, they learn how to choose their preferred framework for web application development.
Through this course, students will explore techniques used in the development of Python Web applications and focus on developing real-world web solutions to problems.
Content Management Systems
Online content management systems (CMS applications) are today a popular method in designing and creating websites. This course covers the principle concepts of CMS and discusses some of the CMS platforms currently used for creating websites. In this course, students will learn to plan and design a CMS website in WordPress that leads to online exposure for businesses or products.
In this course, students will practice creating well defined and usable site navigation, relevant themes, sidebars, and implement CSS. Moreover, students will be placed in teams to work on CMS website for businesses (real or mock). They will research target audiences, products and businesses, identify the right themes for the site, gather relevant assets, and finally design and create a user-friendly CMS website.
Python Programming
This web development diploma course introduces Python and Django frameworks to students and covers the foundations and principles of developing web applications. In this web development course, students will learn how to use Django open-source web framework for rapid development and creating a clean and pragmatic design. Through this course, students will explore techniques used in developing Python Web applications and focus on problem-solving by developing real-world web solutions.
At the end of the course, the students will be knowledgeable about:
- Developing stages in product design
- Covering product evaluation and assessment
Front-End Development with React
Building on the previous web development courses in this program, this course will cover the development of user interfaces and components by React.
Students will learn about the React language and its open-source JavaScript libraries and how to design and develop cross-platform web and mobile applications and how to publish them for use on different platforms and devices. This course covers the core concept of React and how to build responsive designs that adapt to different devices and screen sizes, as well as navigating around the application, animate elements, and even use Camera and Maps.
Web Development Capstone Project
This is the last course of the Web Development Program, in which students are required to carry out a major Web development project with the supervision of an instructor. Students will propose an idea about web applications that would allow them to use what they have learned in this program such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Database, and Front-End.
Under the guidance of the Capstone course instructor, students will work together as a team towards creating and developing a completely user-friendly and functional online application. Through the process of this course, students will apply the development skills they have learned in this program to design mockups, wireframes, prototypes, and UI/UX and develop the Front-End and Back-End functionality for an online digital solution.
